SYJO2SYJO2 is the most recent addition to the SYJO Trust portfolio and was formed in spring 2010 in response to the growing demand from Scotland’s young musicians for professional jazz training and performance opportunities. SYJO2 is considered the training ground for full SYJO membership and provides young musicians with the opportunity to develop improvisation and reading skills and to perform standard big band repertoire. SYJO2 is directed by Gavin Spowart, one of Scotland’s top professional trumpeters and a highly experienced jazz music educator. Rehearsals take place fortnightly on Mondays from 6-8pm at the University of Strathclyde’s Jordanhill Campus. SYJO2 recently undertook their 1st public performance during the SYJO Showcase event in Oran Mor in Glasgow. Future plans include a regular monthly slot at a venue in Glasgow and participation in the NCBF Big Band Festival. Applications are welcome at any time. Applicants should have attained a minimum level of approximately Grade 6 and should have an interest in jazz music. Previous experience of performing jazz music is preferred but not essential.
